A letter of introduction is similar to an open reference but is used to take advantage of a personal association or connection by introducing one person to another. The sender is personal acquaintance and therefore in a position to recommend one person to another. Such letters require information about the experience or character and dependability of the person who is being introduced. The objective of these types of letters is to increase the credibility of the person and typically used a personal recommendation for employment to a potential employer.
